About the Provost and Vice President, Academic Office

Dr. Matthew Prineas will begin his term as Athabasca University’s (AU’s) inaugural Provost and Vice President, Academic on September 5, 2017.

The Provost and Vice President, Academic has a broad and deep mandate to lead, champion and advance AU’s academic mission. As the University’s chief academic officer, the Provost and Vice President, Academic is responsible for the creation and elevation of academic excellence and quality, including academic programs, research, academic policy, accreditation, and learner services. The office combines and balances academic leadership with leadership on institutional planning, budgeting and resource allocation. Reporting to the President, the Provost serves an integral role in the development and implementation of AU’s strategic direction and academic priorities.
